What The FUX
(Frequently Unasked Questions)
When I lived in Spain I had a WTF page. I now live in New Mexico
Q What’s it like to live in New Mexico? Do I need a passport to visit there?
A There is great confusion among Americanos regarding New Mexico. Yes, New Mexico is in Old Mexico. If you plan to visit be aware most of the inhabitants do not speak much, if any, English. It is recommended that you take some Spanish language classes first. Popular and necessary phrases to learn are things like, “Donde esta el bano” (you will need this a lot). Another phrase that goes a long way is, “Soy un turista tonto.”
Q How does one end up in New Mexico?
A When I was a kid my three sisters and my younger brother and my Grandma took the train from Oceanside to Chicago, our ultimate destination being Port Stanley, Ontario, Canada. There was a stop at Albuquerque, and at the depot sat a lone Native American, selling blankets and jewelry. For some reason this stayed in my memory. The next time I went to Albuquerque was when I moved there.
Q How long have you been an artist?
A I can barely remember when I started drawing as a kid. My mom was an artist. She was really into fashion art. She got me “The Visible Man and Woman” plastic models, and that got me interested in anatomy. I created a photography darkroom in my bedroom closet at about 10 years old after I found an old Kodak bellows camera in our basement.
Q Do you still exhibit anywhere?
A No, the business side of art is terrible.
Q I see on your other site that you are a cartoonist. When did you start that?
A I wanted to work with Disney when I was a kid; that didn’t happen. I always wanted to be a cartoonist. That was even less likely to make money than art. When covid hit I started making cartoons as there was nothing else to do. Did a lot of artwork during that time as well.
